Nicola Kennelly, Clinical Child Psychologist

My experience and the concerns I can work with

Clinical Psychologists are usually approached by people confused about the way in which someone is thinking, feeling, or behaving. A request for support is usually to seek an understanding about the confusing thoughts, feelings and behaviour and to seek ways in which to alleviate distress and positively move forward.

The phrase 'growth, harmony, and new beginnings' reflects the areas I offer support in. I focus primarily on issues of developmental concern (growth), support improved quality of life, wellbeing and mental health (harmony), and support people with changing circumstances and issues of adjustment (new beginnings).

Growth

Growth

My specialist areas have been in assessing and managing complex child development concerns (e.g. attachment, autism, ADHD and learning disabilities) and in providing specialist support and advice regarding complex parenting issues. I am experienced in contributing my opinion to those who have concerns regarding any diagnostic issues. I can also provide advice on interventions that may support children, young people and families affected by a diagnosis. For example children or young people with school attendance issues and those displaying behaviour which challenges their carers e.g. sleep and toileting issues.

Harmony

Harmony

I have worked with children and young people to improve their quality of life and improve their wellbeing. I have worked with all common mental health conditions experienced by children and young people (e.g. depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, self-harm, suicidal concerns, somatic complaints, addictions, and stress responses). I have also worked with children young people with physical health issues e.g. chronic pain, fatigue, diabetes, and unexplained medical conditions.

New Beginnings

New beginnings

I have supported children, young people and their families to cope with adjusting when their situation changes. I have supported children and young people with an adjustment relating to the completion of therapy, transitions, separation, loss, and receiving diagnoses. I also have experience of working on adjustment with families in complex situations and with looked after children.
